Pregnancy Chiropractic Care Can Help with a Breech Baby

Written By LaVallee Chiropractic on November 19, 2018

While pregnancy is a natural thing for women to go through, carrying a baby (or more than one) around inside your body can be daunting. Not only is the baby making room for itself inside you, but you're also carrying around excess weight which can add to your pain.

Pregnancy chiropractic care helps with pain, and it can also help with breech babies.

While pregnancy can be stressful, Dr. James LaVallee can help ease both the stress and pains of pregnancy. His experience spans more than a decade in chiropractic care, with a degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic.

What Is a Breech Pregnancy?

A breech baby is a full-term baby that has not turned so that the baby's head is aimed at the birth canal, although studies have shown that some breech presentations happen with premature births.

A few weeks before a baby is about to come into the world they naturally position themselves this way, so that they come out head first. When this doesn't happen, it can cause difficulty for the baby (including an increased risk of birth defects).

Between the 35th and 37th week, a baby can be maneuvered into the proper position. Turning them isn't always easy, and it isn't always effective – but chiropractic care has an answer that may help mom's that are carrying a breech baby.

What Is the Webster Technique?

First, it helps to know that proper pelvic alignment is a must when you're about to birth a baby. It can take some of the pressure and pain away, and it can help keep you from having a breech baby in the first place.

The Webster Technique, which is short for the Webster In-Utero Constraint Technique, is used to properly balance the pelvis.

The basic idea is that the balanced pelvis will take much of the strain off of the ligaments that support the uterus. Ligaments like the round ligaments are pulled to extreme tension during pregnancy, making it difficult for the baby to move around.

The Webster Technique takes away the strain that causes that tension, lowering the risk of a breech pregnancy.

Other Benefits of Pregnancy Chiropractic

Pregnancy puts a strain on the entire body, so your chiropractor should be one of the professionals you have on your pregnancy team. Chiropractic care can help relieve sciatica pain, all back pain, and it can even help relieve your heartburn. A well-adjusted spine is vital to overall wellness.
